In Adelaide in Rundle Mall today I came across these lovely piggies adorned with face masks. With all the swine flu hysteria I found this to be all rather amusing.

    Cupcakes

    By Jasmine | January 19, 2009

I have been craving home baked sweeties for a few weeks now in particular some cup cakes.

Came across the magical coloured choc chip (like the deformed cousin of smarties) while at the stupermarket last week and gave in.
These little chocolate coloured rocks are delicious!

Sure I used box cake mix and it is not so much making as assembling but it did mean that I actually made cupcakes as opposed to just leaving the ingredients in the cupboard to gather dust. Next time I’ll do it from scratch (without the boxed banana flavour) and I’m sure it they will be tastier but all things considered they are quite tasty. I couldn’t help my self from adding some cinnamon and freshly grated nutmeg to give it a more natural flavour and they are actually pretty tasty and very light and fluffy considering my hand whisked effort in lieu of a cake mixer.

Having made the cup cakes and eaten enough sugar to put me into a diabetic coma I am now content.
And yes I ate cup cakes for dinner but what is the point in being an adult if you can’t be irresponsible from time to time.

    Euchronia NYE Ball,

    By Jasmine | January 10, 2009

Costume was created originally for a “wild west” themed xmas party in late November.

Andre had ISO 3200 black and white film in the camera that was developed earlier this week.

Jeans with grey leopard print highlights

    By Jasmine | January 10, 2009

I cut these pants out… many months ago as part of a pants batch.

The last few days I’ve made an attempt at finishing off all the projects that have been cut out and partially finished and left sitting on my sewing machine table.

Jeans with leopard highlights, pocket detail

The denim used for these pants is distinctly horrible, it has a layer of partially unset dye that is designed to wash out leaving a worn/faded look. The worn faded look is ok but it makes a god awful mess in the washing machine the first few washes. (These have been washed twice.. once on cold which just loosened all the dye so touching them left black stains on my hands, the second wash I used extra detergent and a hot wash and it seemed to rinse enough dye out that they are now wearable.) The leopard was a creamy-grey white colour before they were washed, as you can see in the picture it is now closer to a blue grey…

Now sure what to do about the cuffs on the bottom, they were originally supposed to only be 2.5 inches but the jeans didn’t shrink quite enough in length in the wash for the cuff to be that small when wearing flat shoes like the birkenstocks I’m earing in the photo’s. I am thinking about putting two sets of press studs (same as used for the button fly) so that I can have a 3.5 and a 2.5 inch cuff depending on the size of the heal I’m wearing.

    < insert > project < here >

    By Jasmine | January 7, 2009

been left a little pushed for time these last few months… Too much work not nearly enought life left to live in.

Recapping the half finished projects of 2008 and the few completely finished projects that never quite made it up here…

When or if I ever finish any of these and get the time I will create and actual entry for them and post more details and pictures.

Black satin underbust with extreme waist reduction (finished)

White mesh summer ( skeleton ) overbust corset (started, sewn all the panels together, and put the inside layer of boning canel twill tape on)

Two pair of demin jeans (damin that is black but leaks dye till it is grey) with grey/black leopard facings and highlights. (started one pair, I’ve done the hip pockets and started the rear and calf pockets)

One pair of stretch balck corderoy pants in a jeans cut. (Fabric is cut…)

One pair of fugly denim jeans that has a tartan-esque weave to it. (fabric is cut for everything except the zip and pocket interfacing)

Black 3/4 length shorts in a jeans cut. ( Most of these were cut from some left over fabric some years ago but they were never going to be quite long enough, so the remaining extra few inches and pocket zip peices were cut from left over black corderoy. Was originally going to use the 30cm wide heavy lace piece I’ve got laying around to add some additional sections or general highlights.)

Floor length black pinstripe weave skirt (high waist with slight fishtail cut) (Finished)

Knee length black pinstripe over skirt (designed to be worn over lace or light fishtail skirts, at the knee at the front dropping to calf length at the back) This was the tope section of the below mentioned red and grey floor length skirt with red piping. (mostly complete, just needs the interfacing attached)

Floor length Red and grey pinstripe skirt made from the same pattern as the above mentioned black version. (finished)

Floor length Red and grey pinstripe skirt with red piping. Piping runs in a nicely around the knee area, at or slightly above the knee at the front down to calf hight at the back. (mostly finished, just needs the pressing at the piping and at on inferfacing before sewing down the interfacing and topstitching the piping.)

Black satin overbust corset, (panels are sewn together… Structural layer used as part of my costume for the Euchronia 2008 NYE ball, serious fitting issues with regards to the front bust lenght were corrected (about an inch too high at bust… The Cotton duck layer that was going to be the lining has now been cut down to an underbust and the satin layer wil get cut down to match. I’ll do another structural layer out of the coutil that arrived some months ago)

Not sure if the next two count but what the hell..

1880’s bustle dress costume for a “wild west” themed Xmas party. I was stuck in hotel room in western Sydney for a week so I took some supplies with me and turned a tail coat into a hip length oriental collared jacket by re-attaching the tails sideways, made a bustle train using the scratchy horrible fabric that has been cluttering up the wordrobe, and made a drape style apron thing out of black crepe using safety pins. All in all in worked, I worne the leopard stright corset underneath to get the right silhouette and a round necked waistcoat over the top. Picked up a cheap facinator for my head in the post “cup day” clearance bins. The bustle attachments were worn over a couple of floor length skirts, and an old knee length skirt was tied onto the bustle train for extra bottom padding. (finished and worn, photo’s will be tracked down eventually)

Fairy princess..Ahhem I mean, Victorian/Gothy bustle dress for Euchronia 2008 NYE ball.
Had great plans to finish the corset (see above) and wear it with some sort of steam punk attire, (images will get scanned and added eventually, but the basic idea was to wear an oriental collared shirt (olive green faux leather one was obtained from the Op-shop) with the corset with shoulder straps and a crinoline cage skirt pulled up at the back to create a bustle effect over off white bloomers, black and white stripes and my brogued calf height boots)
On the day before NYE having a fair bit left to do I canxed the whole idea (so I could get to sleep) and decided to resurect some of the 1880’s bustle costume and do something in the victorian/gothy direction (with less layers so I wouldn’t bake to death). End result is the above mentioned bustle dress but subsituting the long skirts with 5mtrs of Twill netting that created a similar shape to a crinoline cage and using the corset that I had been attempting to finish to give a more hour glass shape and keep the twill skirt from being quite so.. wide and tu-tu like. (Project was not finished but the substitute easy way out was definitely finished)

That is all the random projects I can remember for now.
